Asparagus with White Cream Sauce

2 lbs of Asparagus.

1 tablespoon butter

1 ½ tablespoons all purpose flour

1 cup of half and half or whole milk

2 teaspoons of white sugar

salt and pepper to taste

Trim off the tough ends of the Asparagus spears. Place the asparagus in a steamer basket and steam until just tender.

Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small saucepan. Add flour and stir together until the flour is absorbed by the butter. Allow the mixture to simmer for a minute but don’t allow it to burn. Add the milk or half and half and continue to stir until it thickens. Add the sugar and salt and pepper to taste.

Drizzle over the Asparagus and serve immediately!

Note:

If the mixture is too thick you can thin it out with a bit of milk.

Enjoy and Happy Spring!!
